Junior Kindergarten is designed for four-year-olds (children born in 2022) and offers a nurturing, play-based introduction to school life with a Christ-centred environment. The program focuses on social development, early learning foundations, and building confidence, independence, and curiosity.

The Junior Kindergarten program will operate under a group childcare licence, making it a distinct program from the K-7 school. Under this licence, the program can serve a maximum of 16 children, supervised by two ECE-trained teachers.
As the school does not receive individual grants for Junior Kindergarten students, the program will be primarily funded through parent tuition, and sibling discounts will not apply.
Daily Routines, Care, and Morning Drop-off & Pick-Up
- Drop-Off & Pick-Up: For the safety and supervision of our youngest learners, Junior Kindergarten students must be delivered to and picked up directly at the classroom door. Drop-off and pick-up in the Kiss-and-Go will not be available. Please note that the Richmond bus service is not available for Junior Kindergarten students.
- Recess Time & Outdoor Play: Junior Kindergarten students will have their own dedicated recess time separate from K-7 students. We are also planning and exploring a new outdoor play area designed specifically for early childhood education.
Learning Environment and Enrichment
- Learning Space: Junior Kindergarten students will have a large, bright classroom space that includes a designated washroom.
- Meals: Junior Kindergarten students will enjoy access to our Daily Hot Meal Program.
- Specialty Classes: Specialist teachers will provide enriching experiences throughout the week in the areas of music and physical education.
- Uniforms: Junior Kindergarten students will wear a uniform that is distinct from the K-7 program available through Cambridge Uniforms, with comfort and play-based learning in mind.
School Calendar Alignment
- With respect to the school calendar, start and end dates, major holidays, and professional development days will align with the K-7 calendar, helping families maintain consistency across programs.
Enrollment
- Acceptance into the program will be based on our ability to support the individual needs of each learner.
- Government K-Grade 7 special education funding does not apply to the Junior Kindergarten program.
- While priority consideration is given to current DCS families, siblings of DCS students are not guaranteed a space. Admission to Junior Kindergarten is determined on a student-by-student basis and is dependent on the program’s ability to support the needs of each learner.
- Families admitted into Junior Kindergarten will continue through into the K–7 program.

Our Educational Philosophy
At Delta Christian School, we strive to create a warm, nurturing, and Christ-centred Junior Kindergarten environment where young children feel safe, loved, and confident as they begin their learning journey. At this early stage, we believe children learn best through play, exploration, and meaningful relationships. Our approach is holistic, supporting each child’s spiritual, emotional, social, physical, and early cognitive development in developmentally appropriate ways.
Social-emotional growth is a central focus in Junior Kindergarten. Through gentle guidance, consistent routines, and modelled kindness, children learn to understand their emotions, develop empathy, and build positive relationships grounded in respect and integrity. These foundational skills support healthy independence and readiness for future learning.
Play-based learning encourages curiosity, language development, creativity, and early problem-solving, while nurturing joy and wonder in the classroom. At DCS, we partner closely with families to help children discover their God-given gifts and to lay a strong foundation of faith, belonging, and a lifelong love of learning.
More detailed information about our Junior Kindergarten program will be shared in early spring.
