Sara Miller, Kindergarten Teacher
Personal
Sara moved to South Delta in the summer of 2023 with her husband, Cameron, and cherishes the natural beauty all around. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, and cycling. When the weather turns, she might instead be found indoors playing piano or guitar, reading a book with a cup of tea in hand, or trying a new recipe from one of her cookbooks. Sara is a lover of the Danish hygge lifestyle, strives to be a minimalist, and is slowly, but surely, transforming her consumption to be as sustainable and ethical as possible.
Sara and Cameron are active members of Surrey Alliance Church, serving in hospitality, media, and the young adults ministry.
Professional
In the spring of 2023, Sara graduated from the 5-year concurrent B.A./B.Ed. program at Trinity Western University, where she specialized in Social Studies (concentration) and Music Education (minor). In her certifying practicum, Sara taught a grade one class and music for each of the grade one and two classes in a Langley school; she also experienced smaller practicums ranging from kindergarten to grade three in Maple Ridge, Surrey, and Abbotsford.
Philosophical
Sara appreciates how a Christian education tells God’s story – about life in His Kingdom – through every learned subject, challenging the thought that some moments or sections in life are sacred while others are secular; students are able to notice Him as they experience the natural environment, as they use stories to help them learn about their own identity, and as they observe repeating elements in patterns. From this holistic place, a student’s heart, hands, and mind become prepared to serve Him faithfully today and in the future.
She believes that the classroom should be a physically and mentally safe space to learn, with mistakes and missteps being viewed as an ordinary part of the learning journey. One of Sara’s biggest hopes is that people around her will feel known and loved and, as a teacher, she hopes this inspires and empowers her students to be life-long and joyful learners.
